SOLD OUT! Weaving & Wine: An Introduction to Tapestry Weaving July 16th 6:30 to 9:30pm 15 Dufferin Road, Ottawa, ON
Weaving is fun and portable - all the ingredients for a great summer hobby that you can take with you to the cottage, the park, on the airplane, in the car, etc.
By the end of this workshop, you will have learned: - how to warp a loom - how to start and finish your weaving - how to incorporate a variety of fibre and textile into your tapestry, and - how to weave with many of these techniques (plain weave, rya knots, soumak, organic loops, roving and more).
You will leave the workshop with a completed (or almost completed) weaving, some new skills to impress your family and friends and a feeling of calm, connectedness after creating something by hand.
No prerequisite for this workshop - just an interest in learning something new or building on some beginner skills you already have.
How much does it cost?
$100 if you don’t want to take the loom home. $150 if you want a loom to call your own (this is a special family and friends offer - my prices will be going up in the fall when my studio opens - see note on that below).
Your registration fee includes:
3 hours of personalized instruction, plus support after the session
Handcrafted maple lap loom (14”x18”) for use in workshop (or for a discounted rate if you want to take it home, as noted above)
Fibre & textile inputs for use during the class
A spool of warping thread
Tapestry needle & comb (you can take these home if you take a loom)
A dowel to hang your weaving
Your completed weaving
A glass of wine on my deck in New Edinburgh!
Tell me more about those awesome looms!
My looms are beautiful, handcrafted maple lap looms (measuring 14” x 18”) and made by my amazing brother, Paul, in his wood shop in Saskatchewan.
How do I register?
Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to register.. I take e-transfers for the registration fees and will confirm that with you when you email me.
What if I register and can’t make it?
Registration fees are non-refundable but can be transferred to someone else OR used for a future workshop (more coming in August and beyond). Should I have to cancel for some unknown reason, students will receive a full refund. If I need to postpone or reschedule a class due to unforeseen circumstances, I will make every effort to contact students to let them know of the cancellation and to arrange a makeup workshop.
